Cyclones Announce 2014 Cross Country Slate
AMES, Iowa - Iowa State director of track and field and cross country Martin Smith announced the Cyclones’ schedule for the 2014 cross country season this afternoon. In total, the men’s and women’s teams will compete at three regular-season meets before taking on the championship slate.
The Cyclones will open up the year with a tune-up meet, starting the season at the Bulldog 4K Classic on Aug. 29. The meet, hosted by Drake, will be held at Ewing Park in Des Moines, Iowa.
Competition will elevate in the following two meets, as Iowa State will travel to Minneapolis, Minnesota for the Roy Griak Invitational and to Madison, Wisconsin for the Wisconsin Adidas Invitational. The meets will be held on Sep. 27 and Oct. 17, respectively.
Championship season will open up championship season Nov. 1 in Lawrence, Kansas where the Cyclones will compete at the 2014 Big 12 Championship. The women’s team will be chasing their fourth-consecutive conference title. The NCAA Midwest Regional, held on Nov. 14, marks the NCAA qualifier on both the individual and team levels. The regional meet will be held in Peoria, Illinois.
The Cyclones will wrap up the year in Terra Haute, Indiana at the NCAA Division I Cross Country Championships. The national meet will take place Nov. 22 at the LaVern Gibson Championship Cross Country Course.
