Fisher Named Gatorade Iowa Player Of The Year

AMES, Iowa – Incoming Cyclone pitcher Riley Fisher has been named the Gatorade Iowa Softball Player of the Year, The Gatorade Company announced Wednesday. As a state award winner, Fisher is a finalist for the National Gatorade Softball Player of the Year Award, announced later this month.
The Gatorade award, recognizes athletic excellence, high standards of academic achievement and exemplary character demonstrated on and off the field.
A standout in the circle for East High School (Des Moines), Fisher led the Scarlets to the 4A Iowa State Championship last season, going 23-3 with a 1.10 ERA. Known for her hitting as well as her pitching, Fisher averaged .325 in her junior season with 13 home runs and 48 RBI en route to being named the 2011 Class 4A Pitcher of the Year. Fisher is a two-time First Team All-State selection and a member of the All-State Tournament team.
In the classroom, Fisher maintained a 4.02 GPA while volunteering for the Kiwanis Miracle League and being involved with the Scarlet Santa Program, which provides gifts for needy children.
