AMES, Iowa – Dalyn Varela wrapped up her Iowa State career with two hits, including a home run, as the Cyclones (14-39, 2-22 Big 12) lost to No. 3 Oklahoma (45-8, 19-5) 5-1 Sunday afternoon at Iowa State’s last scheduled game at the Southwest Athletic Complex.

Down 3-0 going into the bottom of the second, the senior Varela took an 0-1 Keilani Ricketts pitch and blasted it over the left field wall to reduce the Iowa State deficit to 3-1. It was Varela’s second homer of the season and ninth of her career.

Varela added a second hit to her total with a single to center field in the bottom of the fourth. She finished the game 2-for-3 at the plate.

Kayla Hardiman had another good outing behind the plate for the Cyclones. The Iowa State backstop caught Destinee Martinez trying to steal second in the first inning and also went 1-for-2 at the plate with a single in the bottom of the third.

Oklahoma did not waste time getting runs on the board in the first. Georgia Casey led off the game with a single and made it home on Martinez’s at-bat as Tori Torrescano’s throw to first on a bunt attempt was late and wild, allowing Casey to get home. The Sooners loaded the bases with a walk and two singles for Brittany Williams, who hit a blooper to left-center that dropped between the Cyclone fielders to plate two and take give Oklahoma a 3-0 advantage.

OU got back on the board in the top of the sixth, when Katie Norris posted a single and was advanced on a Javen Henson sacrifice bunt. Casey recorded her second hit of the game with a homer over the center field wall to expand the Sooners lead to 5-1.

Ricketts (28-7) picked up the win, pitching all seven innings allowing three hits while striking out nine Cyclones. Torrescano (8-27) took the loss, throwing all seven innings, allowing 10 hits and four walks while striking out three Sooners.
