Miller Earns Second All-Region Selection
AMES, Iowa – Cyclone senior Erica Miller has been selected to the National Fastpitch Coaches Association Div. I All-Midwest Region Second Team, the NFCA announced Thursday. Miller was also chosen to the second team in 2012.
In her final season at Iowa State, Miller set a single season record for RBI, driving in 52 runs on the season and tied teammate Tori Torrescano for the most walks, 29, in a season. Miller’s RBI total for the season drove her to the top of the Iowa State career record book with 149 runs driven in since her freshman season. The Pomona, Calif. native finished her career ranked among the top-10 players all-time for average, doubles, home runs, hits and runs scored.
In Iowa State’s March 2 win over St. John’s Miller went 3-for-3 while driving in a record seven runs. In her career, Miller tallied 10 games with at least three hits and drove in three or more runs on 15 occasions. Her 15-game hitting streak in 2012 is one of only two such streaks in Iowa State history.
For the 2013 season, Miller hit .353 with 19 extra-base hits, including 12 doubles and six home runs. Her .349 average in Big 12 play along with 13 RBI and four doubles helped Miller to her second-straight All-Big 12 First Team selection and third overall honor. Erica Martinez was the last Cyclone to earn two first team berths, doing so from 2001-03.
Overall, 22 Big 12 softball players were selected to all-region teams by NFCA member coaches from around the country. All the honorees and all conference pitcher and player of the year winners are eligible for selection to one of three 2013 NFCA Division I All-American teams to be announced at 4 p.m. CDT on Wednesday, May 29.
