Cyclones Fall To Kansas
LAWRENCE, Kan. - Iowa State (14-30, 2-13 Big 12) collected one hit on Sunday, falling 8-0 at Kansas (28-16, 5-13 Big 12). Freshman Lexi Slater had the Cyclones' only hit, a single to lead off the fourth inning.
With the exception of Maddie Stein's two-run homer in the third inning, the Jayhawks distanced themselves from the Cyclones with small-ball, getting RBI singles from Mariah Montgomery, Chanin Naudin, Maggie Hull and Lexi Bryant.
A fielding error by Iowa State's Sara Davison scored the final two Jayhawk runs, ending the five-inning contest.
After hitting a single through the right side to open the fourth inning, Slater was stranded at second after a fly out from Davison and groundouts from Tori Torrescano and Erica Miller.
Alicia Pille (15-9) recorded her second win of the series, pitching a complete game, allowing one hit, no runs or walks and striking out three.
Torrescano (8-21) took the loss for Iowa State after four innings in the circle, allowing 10 hits, seven runs, six earned, walking no one and fanning one.
Next weekend, the Cyclones are at home for a series with No. 10 Missouri. Competition begins Friday at 4 p.m. at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
