No. 10 Missouri Defeats Cyclones
AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State softball team fell 9-0 to the No. 10 Missouri Tigers in five innings on Friday. Lexi Slater and Sara Davison both went 2-for-3 at the plate for the Cyclones (14-31, 2-14 Big 12), but it was not enough as the Tigers (35-10, 12-7 Big 12) had four home runs on the afternoon.
The Tigers struck first in the top of the first inning when Nicole Hudson singled to center field with the bases loaded to bring home teammates Jenna Marston and Ashley Fleming. Missouri scored later in the inning when Cyclone pitcher Tori Torrescano (8-22) walked a batter with the bases loaded to score Kelsea Roth.
Iowa State threatened to answer in the bottom half of the inning when Lexi Slater singled and advanced to third on two wild pitches, but the Cyclones were unable to capitalize.
Missouri added to its lead in the second inning with a two-run home run by Fleming, followed by solo home runs by both Roth and Hudson, extending the Tiger lead to 7-0.
After two scoreless innings, the Tigers struck again with a Rachel Hay two-run home run to score teammate Princess Krebs.
Chelsea Thomas (19-7) got the win for Missouri, putting in four innings of work with 11 strikeouts. Torrescano pitched 1.1 innings for the Cyclones before being relieved by Madison Jones, who finished the final 3.2 innings.
The Cyclones will be back in action against Missouri on Saturday at the Southwest Athletic Complex in Ames at 2 p.m. CST.
