AMES, Iowa - The Cyclone softball team includes seven newcomers, five freshmen and two sophomore transfers, this season. Each week, cyclones.com will feature one of the nine newcomers, allowing fans to get to know the players off the field.

Overland Park, Kan. native Lauren Thimmesch joined the Cyclones in 2012 after winning four regional championships at Saint Thomas Aquinas High School and a Kansas state championship in 2008. Thimmesch was a three-time defensive player of the year and was selected to the Kansas All-State Softball team in her sophomore season.

In her first season at Iowa State, Thimmesch saw action against Iowa at the Littlewood Classic in Tempe, Ariz.

This weekend, the Cyclones take to the road for the final time in 2012, traveling to No. 25 Baylor for a three-game series. Game one begins at 6:30 p.m. CST on Friday.
