AMES, Iowa - Seven Cyclone softball players have been named to the 2012 Academic All-Big 12 teams, the league office announced Thursday, including six first-team selections.

Sara Davison, Jennifer Drahozal, Erin Johnson, Lauren Kennewell, Erica Miller and Tori Torrescano represent the Cyclones on the top team with Sara Rice earning a spot on the second team. It is the second academic honor for Kennewell, Johnson and Torrescano and the first for the other four honorees.

In seven seasons under head coach Stacy Gemeinhardt-Cesler, Iowa State has never placed fewer than six student-athletes on Academic All-Big 12 teams.

To qualify for academic recognition, a student-athlete must maintain a cumulative grade-point average of 3.00 or higher and participate in no less than 60 percent of her team's contests. Freshmen and transfer students are ineligible during their first academic year at an institution.

The Cyclones (14-36, 2-19 Big 12) are back in action at home this weekend, closing out their season hosting No. 3 Oklahoma. The three game series begins Friday at 4 p.m. CST at the Southwest Athletic Complex.
