AMES, Iowa- Iowa State is off to a fast start in the Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, ranking 25th nationally in the initial 2013-14 standings released this week.

Iowa State, which has the second-highest score in the Big 12 (90), received points in two of the three NCAA Championships which have concluded this season. The Cyclones earned 63 points in women’s cross country behind a 13th-place finish at the NCAA Championships and garnered 27 points in men’s cross country.

Iowa State finished 41st in the 2012-13 Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup standings, its second-best finish in school history and the 4th-best placing among Big 12 schools.

The Learfield Sports Directors’ Cup is awarded annually to the nation’s best overall collegiate athletics program. Instituted in 1993, the Directors’ Cup is one of the most prestigious awards in collegiate athletics.
