AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State tennis team has unveiled its schedule for the 2012-13 season. Under the direction of fifth-year head coach Armando Espinosa, the team is slated to host 10 home matches.
Iowa State will debut its 2012-13 squad at the Drake Fall Invitational in Des Moines on Sept. 14. Duals at the Robert Knapp Tennis Center will kickoff a four-tournament fall season for the Cyclones, including appearances at the ITA Regionals in Tulsa, Okla., the Kansas Fall Invitational in Lawrence, Kan., and the Western Michigan Fall Invitational in Kalamazoo, Mich.
Espinosa expressed his satisfaction with the upcoming fall season’s outline.
“The fall will be great for us,” Espinosa said. “It’s a strong fall schedule and we think it will give the team a really good preseason.”
In the spring, Iowa State will vie for its final tournament title at the Florida Gulf Coast Invitational in Ft. Myers, Fla. Following the tournament, the team will start off spring duals with an Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk series matchup, hosting the Iowa Hawkeyes on Jan. 26. During the season, the Cyclones will also host TCU and West Virginia in the schools’ inaugural Big 12 seasons.
“We have a good combination of very solid teams and teams that we feel we can compete against,” Espinosa said of the spring schedule. “We are really excited about how it all turned out, and we’re pleased with the strength of it and how the dates have panned out.”
The Iowa match starts off spring dual competition that will continue through the last week of April, when conference action concludes at the Big 12 Championship tournament in Norman, Okla., beginning on April 25.
