Cyclones Defeat Drake, 5-2
AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State (3-6, 0-0 Big 12) tennis team defeated Drake (6-7, 0-0 MVC) for the seventh consecutive time in a competitive dual with a final score of 5-2. The Cyclones opened the dual with a team doubles victory and continued by winning four of six singles contests.
Simona Cacciuttolo and Caroline Hauge Andersen gave Iowa State their first victory with an 8-4 decision over Maddie Johnson and Lea Kozulic of Drake. The Cyclones won the team doubles point in a competitive match as Ksenia Pronina and Jenna Langhorst held off the Bulldogs' Jordan Eggleston and Klavdija Rebol, 8-7.
Pronina won a singles point at the No. 2 singles. The sophomore convincingly defeated Lea Kozulic, 6-2, 6-0, for the Cyclones first singles victory. Langhorst added another victory at the No. 5 spot, 6-4, 6-3, over the Bulldogs' Nell Boyd.
The Cyclones clinched the victory in the No. 4 matchup between Meghan Cassens and Maddie Johnson. Cassens defeated Johnson in straight sets, 6-4, 6-0. Emma Waites rounded out the night with a win at No. 6 over Mariel Ante, 7-5, 6-0.
Iowa State will be back in action tomorrow against Grand View and Stephens College. Play will begin at 10 a.m.
