Iowa State Tennis Back in Ames For Two Matches
AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State tennis team (6-4, 0-0 Big 12) will be back in Ames this Friday, taking on Bradley (1-5, 0-0 Missouri Valley Conference) and South Dakota (2-2, 0-0 Summit League).
Last weekend, the Cyclones braved the weather in Minneapolis, losing 7-0 to both Minnesota and then-No. 70 Marshall at the Baseline Tennis Center. Head coach Armando Espinosa hopes that the upcoming matches will be a chance for the team to regain confidence.
“You lose 7-0 and 7-0, obviously you kind of get smacked in the mouth a little bit and you start questioning yourself a little more,” Espinosa said. “Hopefully we’re resilient enough that we’re going to come out and keep fighting and keep doing what we’re supposed to be doing and getting prepared for the Big 12.”
The Braves are coming off of an tough weekend as well, losing to Eastern Illinois, 4-3, and Northern Illinois, 5-2, last Friday and Saturday. South Dakota most recently defeated St. Cloud State last Saturday, 8-1.
Espinosa says he is feeling positive and hoping for a chance to play great matches.
“It doesn't matter who you are playing, it’s going to be based on what you do with that ball and if we can capitalize and we can win those points, then no matter who we play I think we’re going to be competitive,” Espinosa said.
Play will begin vs. the Braves at 10 a.m., followed by the Coyotes at 4 p.m., at Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
