ISU Begins Big 12 Play vs. Kansas, K-State
AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State tennis team (8-5, 0-0 Big 12) is set to begin conference play this Friday against No. 35 Kansas (8-3, 0-0 Big 12). The Cyclones will finish out the weekend with their second conference match of the season against No. 52 Kansas State (6-5, 0-0 Big 12) on Sunday.
Last Friday, the Cyclones fought a tough match before falling 5-2 to Drake.
“Hopefully we’ll use [the loss] as springboard for the Big 12,” head coach Armando Espinosa said. “I think that the team is in good spirits and hopefully they’ll gain some confidence.”
Iowa State’s biggest challenge this weekend will be doubles play, and the Cyclones are looking to make some significant changes.
“It’s become pretty apparent that if we don’t win the doubles point, then we won’t win the match,” Espinosa said. “So we will be looking at that for these upcoming matches against Kansas and Kansas State.”
Kansas was defeated last Saturday, 6-1, by No. 19 Tulsa, while Kansas State upset then-No. 32 Wichita State, 4-3, in their fifth-straight home win.
Play is set to begin this Friday at 3 p.m. at Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
