Cyclone Tennis to Take on TCU, Texas Tech
AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State tennis team (8-9, 0-4 Big 12) will stay in Ames this weekend to take on No. 57 TCU (8-9, 1-2 Big 12) and No. 32 Texas Tech (11-7, 1-3 Big 12) in the final home matches of the season.
Last weekend in Texas, the Cyclones struggled through two 7-0 losses to Texas on Friday and Baylor on Sunday. Despite the score, head coach Armando Espinosa was happy with the way the team performed.
“I thought we played Texas pretty well,” Espinosa said. “We adjusted to the outdoors really well against Texas and I think that took a little bit out of us going into Baylor. Baylor was really a good team and it was one of those things that we just didn’t know how to stop it.”
The Cyclones will take on TCU Friday and Texas Tech Sunday. The Horned Frogs are coming off of a 5-2 loss at No. 17 Oklahoma, while the Red Raiders come from a 4-3 loss to No. 23 Oklahoma State.
Espinosa hopes that being in Ames will help the team when they take on the ranked opponents.
“TCU and Texas Tech are both very talented teams,” Espinosa said. “They can compete against the best teams out there. Hopefully we’ll be able to prove [ourselves] again at home.”
Play is set to begin Friday at 3 p.m. at Ames Racquet and Fitness Center.
