Cyclones Finish Second at Jim West Intercollegiate

MCKINNEY, Texas - The Iowa State men’s golf team finished second out of 14 teams at the Jim West Intercollegiate this afternoon. The Cyclones fired a 54-hole total of 848 (278-275-295=848) to notch runner-up honors for the fourth time this season. ISU’s team score is the fourth lowest in school history and its best performance on the season.

No. 10 Virginia won the team title at 819 (273-267-279=819). Virginia teammates David Pastore and Denny McCarthy tied for medalist honors with a score of 203.

ISU’s Sam Daley put together the best performance of his career. The junior fired a career low 54-hole tally of 206 to tie for fifth individually. Daley’s 206 total tied for the sixth-lowest 54-hole score in school history. Daley strung together three consecutive rounds of sub-par golf (68-68-70=206) to pick up his second top-10 finish this season.

Junior All-American Scott Fernandez and freshman Nick Voke both tied for 11th  at 212. Fernandez fired rounds of 65-70-75 while Voke carded rounds of 70-66-76.

The Cyclones have a quick turnaround, traveling to Iowa City this weekend to participate in the Hawkeye Invitational, April 12-13.
