Andersen Unbeaten After Day One at Wildcat Invite
TUCSON, Ariz.- After the first day of the University of Arizona’s Wildcat Invitational, Iowa State’s Caroline Andersen moves ahead without a loss in the Navy Flight.
After a bye in the first round, Andersen defeated Arizona’s Carly Cassity, 6-1, 6-1. She moves on to face Arizona’s Inge Hendrikx in the semifinals of the Navy Flight on Saturday.
The Wildcat Invitational is Andersen and the Cyclones’ fourth shot at action of the fall campaign. Two weeks ago at the UNI Invite, Andersen took the runner-up title in her bracket after being defeated by her teammate, senior Emma Waites, in the championship round.
The Cyclones faced opponents from Arizona, California State University Northridge, University of Texas- El Paso, University of Texas- San Antonio, and New Mexico.
In the Wildcat Consolation Round, Meghan Cassens defeated CSUN’s Vivian Lin, 6-4, 6-1. Lydia Green earned a win over UTSA’s Miranda Poile, 7-6, 4-6, 10-6, in the Crimson Flight Consolation Round after dropping a first-round match against Cal State Northridge's Mari Taslagyan, 3-6, 7-6, 4-6.
Tournament play will continue Saturday morning at the El Conquistador Golf & Tennis Resort in Tucson.
