SIOUX CITY, Iowa Bill Schwabe, one of more than 100 Iowa State fans who stopped at the Carroll Country Club for a lunch on the Cyclone Tailgate Tour, doesn’t have your everyday job. The Cyclone fan lives with wife Pam and his four children in Breda, Iowa.  He is part-owner of Toyne Inc., which makes fire engines. These are not the converted fire engines you see around Jack Trice Stadium on game day.  These are the real thing. His enthusiasm for making fire engines is only matched by his family’s dedication to Iowa State athletics.

The Schwabes are football and men’s basketball season ticket holders.  Bill was in Kemper Arena when Iowa State’s men’s basketball team won the Big 12 Tournament.  The Schwabes sit in the club section for ISU football games.

“We were at the Colorado game (2007) when Iowa State came back (from a 21-0 deficit) to win at Jack Trice Stadium,” Bill Schwabe said. “Joan Bowles took us over to the club section and we were so impressed that they now sit there for Iowa State games.”

Neither Bill nor Pam are Iowa State graduates. Bill attended Buena Vista and Pam grew up a Husker in Nebraska. Pam’s conversion is complete and the couple will be in Jack Trice Stadium Sept. 3 when Iowa State plays host to North Dakota State.

The second Wednesday stop was at the Long Lines Recreation Center, where hundreds of ISU fans took advantage of the opportunity to mingle with Iowa State coaches.  Among the Cyclone mentors were ISU men’s basketball coach Greg McDermott, who is excited about the future of his program.

“We have nine returning players and some newcomers who will make an immediate contribution,” McDermott said. “Craig Brackins is so excited about this season and I am looking forward to the start of practice.”

The tour will be in Omaha at the Qwest Center Thursday at 5 p.m.- 7:30 p.m.
