Volleyball Plays Three At Home On Saturday
AMES, Iowa – The spring volleyball season comes to Hilton Coliseum on Saturday when Minnesota, Northern Iowa and Nebraska-Omaha come to Ames for a one day, six match event.
The Gophers and Panthers are familiar foes of the Cyclones. UNI visited Hilton during the 2012 season, and Iowa State walked away with the 3-1 win over the then-ranked No. 25 Panthers. 2013 returning players Victoria Hurtt and Mackenzie Bigbee had strong offensive showings with 13 and 11 kills, respectively.
The last time Iowa State saw Minnesota was in Minneapolis during the NCAA Regional Semifinal match the Cyclones won, 3-1, to move to onto the regional final against Florida State. Although many of the starters from that game have graduated, Hurtt had 15 kills in the win and senior Tenisha Matlock posted eight block assists, leading the Cyclones to a 16-8 block advantage.
For Saturday’s event, Hilton’s court, which runs East to West during the regular season, will be reformatted into two courts running North to South. Two matches will be played simultaneously beginning at 10 a.m. CDT. Iowa State will begin the day against Nebraska-Omaha followed by UNI and Minnesota.
