AMES, Iowa – The No. 15 Iowa State volleyball team will host its annual Cardinal and Gold scrimmage Saturday at 1 p.m. in Hilton Coliseum. Prior to the scrimmage at 11:30 a.m., head coach Christy Johnson-Lynch and the Iowa State coaching staff will host “Chalk Talk” in Hilton Coliseum.

The Cyclones enter the 2013 season after its fifth trip to the NCAA Regional Semifinals in the last seven seasons. The 2012 team finished 22-8 overall with a 13-3 conference record to finish second in the league.

Iowa State returns two American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) All-Americans to the 2013 squad in libero Kristen Hahn, who is also the two-time defending Big 12 Libero of the Year, and outside hitter Victoria Hurtt. Both earned 2012 All-Big 12 honors and both were unanimous 2013 Preseason All-Big 12 choices. Sophomore Mackenzie Bigbee, the 2012 Big 12 and AVCA Central Region Freshman of the Year, joined Hahn and Hurtt on the Preseason All-Big 12 team.

The scrimmage also gives Cyclone fans the chance to see the newcomers to the Iowa State program. The 2013 Cyclones feature three newcomers in Ciara Capezio, Maria Fruechte and Samara West. Morgan Kuhrt and Natalie Vondrak will be back on the floor for Iowa State as redshirt freshmen after having sat out the 2012 season.

“Chalk Talk” will feature Johnson-Lynch discussing the rules and strategies of volleyball with a question and answer session following the presentation.
