Cyclones Sweep Titles In Season Opener

DES MOINES, Iowa – The Iowa State cross country squads opened the season in impressive fashion at the Bulldog 4K Classic. The Cyclones took home all men’s and women’s team and individual titles, competing against Drake and UNI in the triangular meet.

The men placed all five scorers in the top-eight. Steve Dado paced the group, winning the four-kilometer race in 10:49.07. Just behind Dado, Jordan Schulze (11:00.38), Nick Schulze (11:00.70) and Josh Heitkamp (11:01.07) formed a pack and provided the anchor on the Cyclones’ score sheet on the race. Nick Jackosky rounded out the scoring for the Cyclones, finishing eighth in 11:03.16.

Erin Valenti took home the women’s individual crown, leading all runners in 12:56.00. Anna Buenneke also notched a top-five finish on the evening, placing fifth in 13:05.93. Taylor McDowell was close on Buenneke’s heels, finishing sixth in 13:06.80. Julie Wiemerslage (13:09.72) and Madison Nagle (13:16.37) also scored for the Cyclones, finishing seventh and tenth, respectively.

The Cyclones will return to competition at the Black and Gold Invitational in Iowa City, Iowa on Sept. 13th.
