NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Iowa State women’s cross country team climbed one slot in the latest United State Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches of America (USTFCCCA) poll. The Cyclones are now ranked No. 25, nationally.

The women impressed at the 28th annual Roy Griak Invitational Saturday, marking the first race of the season for several runners including sophomore Crystal Nelson. Nelson led the Cyclone charge with a 20 minute, 50 second third place finish at the highly touted event. The Winchester, Va., native finished behind only individual champion Shelby Houlihan (Arizona State) and Elvin Kibet (Arizona). Both will likely be All-American candidates this season.

Sophomore Perez Rotich (17th) also notched a top-20 finish in 21:21. Freshman Bethanie Brown was strong in her Cyclone debut, running to a 21st overall finish in 21:26.
