AMES, Iowa – Wednesday marked the largest championship site announcement day in the history of the NCAA and Iowa State featured prominently in the released list. Iowa State University will host one of the six 2015 NCAA Women’s Gymnastics Regionals in 2015 and was chosen as the host of the 2017 NCAA Cross Country Midwest Regional.

“Hosting championship events is an opportunity for us to showcase our institution and campus, the community and the athletics department,” Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard said. “We have earned a reputation for putting on high-caliber collegiate championship events at Iowa State and the upcoming regionals are another chance for us to host a group of outstanding student-athletes and their fans in Ames.”

The Iowa State gymnastics program will be hosting its second NCAA Regional in program history (2006). The Cyclones made the best of their hosting opportunity as Iowa State advanced to the NCAA Championships as a team by finishing second in the regional before advancing to the program’s first “Super Six” appearance two weeks later.

November 2017 will mark Iowa State’s third time hosting the NCAA Cross Country Regional, along with 1997 and 2013. Last month, the Iowa State women’s cross country team claimed its fourth-straight Regional crown and the men’s team saw Mohamed Hrezi qualify for the NCAA Championships as an individual.

While Iowa State’s volleyball program missed out on further hosting opportunities, the Cyclones were excited to see UNI’s bid to host the 2015 NCAA Regional Semifinals and Finals at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines the NCAA accepted. It has been previously announced that Iowa State University will be hosting a 2014 NCAA Regional Semifinals and Finals in Hilton Coliseum next season.

Iowa State University has become a go-to host selection for the NCAA in recent years. Iowa State hosted the 2013 NCAA Wrestling Championships at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines to rave reviews. ISU has hosted numerous NCAA Women’s Basketball Championships First and Second Rounds; 2008 at Wells Fargo Arena, 2010 and 2012 in Hilton Coliseum. Iowa State will host again this coming March in Ames.
