ISU Football Assists With Shop With A Cop Program

AMES, Iowa – The Iowa State football team joined forces with the Ames Police Department this month to participate in the annual Shop with a Cop program.

The program, which began in 1994, helps children in need find gifts for their families from donations made by the community.

A total of 17 ISU football players reported to duty at 7 a.m. to help the kids load up their shopping carts.

 “Shop with a Cop program started 20 years ago as a way to give back to the community,” said Jeff Brinkley, a lieutenant with the Ames Police Department. “We find 100 local kids in the area and take them shopping. Having the athletes here is a big help. The kids see the athletes as role models and it has a profound impact on them.”
