DES MOINES, Iowa – Career performances and historic marks in three events highlighted Iowa State’s showing at Day 2 of the Drake Relays. The Cyclones notched two slots on the program’s top-10 lists in today’s effort, both ranking in the top-five all time.

The women’s 4x400-meter relay team notched the second-fastest time in program history this afternoon, clocking in at 3:36.39. Kendra White, Ese Okoro, Dana Christensen and Krista Shoeman took second in their heat and notched the sixth-fastest time overall en route to qualifying for the event final. The team was just 0.17 seconds off of the all-time mark set last season by White, Okoro, Christensen and Ejiro Okoro, who set the mark at 3:36.22. The Cyclones will be taking on relay teams from Baylor, Notre Dame, Iowa, Purdue, North Dakota State, Arkansas and Washington in the finals tomorrow afternoon.

Kelly McCoy moved up from seventh to fifth in program history, setting a new personal record in the high jump. The Cary, Ill., native finished fifth overall, clearing a height of 5 feet, 9.25 inches in her first appearance at the Drake Relays. McCoy’s fifth-place finish came down to misses, as she was one of four competitors to finish at the height. Teammate Hannah Willms placed 13th in the competition, one height lower than McCoy at 5’7.75”.

Mark Johnson equaled his career-best in the long jump, leaping a distance of 23 feet, 4.75 inches. The mark is his best in outdoor competition, only equaling the mark this past indoor season at the UNI-Dome Open.

In the men’s 110-meter hurdles, Ryan Sander notched his fastest performance of the season. Sander crossed the line in 14.35 seconds in the fourth-fastest time of his career, having clocked in at 14.33 three different times in his years as a Cyclone.

Derek Jones, Kris Brander, Trey Achterhoff and Jacob Hoogensen put together the fastest men’s 4x400-meter relay on the Blue Oval, clocking in at 3:12.20.
