AMES, Iowa - The Iowa State men's basketball team has surprised many people in its steady rise throughout the 2011-12 campaign. The national sportswriters are starting to notice too, as the Cyclones appear in the Associated Press top-25 poll for the first time since Nov. 15, 2005.

Iowa State is ranked No. 25 in this week's poll (March 5), ending a 130-week drought.

The Cyclones have won four of their last five games and finished the Big 12 season tied for third in the conference at 12-6, compiling the third-most league wins in school history.

Iowa State earned the No. 3 seed, its highest seed since claiming the No. 1 seed in 2001, at this week's Big 12 Championship in Kansas City, Mo. The Cyclones will face No. 6 seed Texas, Thursday (March 8) at 8:30 p.m.

Iowa State is among four Big 12 schools ranked in this week's AP poll: No. 3 Kansas, No. 5, Missouri and No. 12 Baylor.
