AMES, Iowa – Korie Lucious has accomplished a lot in college, but earning his degree at Iowa State may be one of his highest honors.

Lucious will receive his diploma tomorrow in Hilton Coliseum during Iowa State graduation festivities. The Cyclones were 16-1 in Hilton Coliseum with Lucious running the point. Chalk up another “Hilton Magic” moment for Lucious tomorrow.

“This means a lot for me and my family,” Lucious said. “I am the only person from my family to graduate from a four-year school. This is a big accomplishment and something I am very proud of.”

Of the six seniors on Iowa State’s 2012-13 roster, five of them (Lucious, Will Clyburn, Chris Babb, Anthony Booker and Austin McBeth) have earned their degrees from Iowa State. Tyrus McGee is scheduled to finish up his coursework after the summer session.

A native Milwaukee, Wis., Lucious played in three NCAA Tournaments in his career (two with Michigan State, one with Iowa State) and was an important cog in Iowa State’s successful 2012-13 campaign.

Lucious recorded 195 assists, the fourth-best single-season total in school history, and drilled 68 3-pointers, the 11th-best season output in the ISU record book, in his lone season for the Cyclones. He will continue to pursue his dream of playing professional hoops, but Lucious knows you can’t play basketball forever.

“You can’t play basketball after 40,” Lucious joked. “To have my degree to fall back on is a great thing to have. I want to play basketball, but you can get injured at any time.”

Lucious was one of many recent Cyclone graduates who attended the Iowa State graduation luncheon this afternoon. Iowa State Athletics Director Jamie Pollard spoke to the group and expressed his gratitude toward their hard work and dedication.

“The most important thing you do at Iowa State isn’t making the last-second shot or winning the race to claim the Big 12 title, it’s walking across the stage at Hilton Coliseum,” Pollard said.
