Hoiberg Shoots His Way Into Shots From The Heart Finals
Hoiberg made all 25 free-throws for the fifth time, edging Brown, who made 24-of-25 charity shots. Hoiberg will face the winner of the Buzz Peterson (North Carolina-Wilmington)-Sean Miller (Arizona) match-up in the finals. The championship will NOT be conducted at the Final Four in Houston this weekend. Each remaining participant will shoot and record their free-throws at home.
The Shots From the Heart initiative was created to raise awareness for the growing problem of heart disease and to raise money to benefit the American Heart Association. Head coaches from 64 Division I schools participated in the tournament conducted during the 2010-11 season.
Hoiberg's decision to participate in this cause was easy to make. Hoiberg's 10-year NBA career was cut short when it was discovered he had an aneurism in his aortic root. He had open heart surgery in June of 2005 and a pacemaker was installed to keep his heart beating.
Hoiberg defeated Keno Davis (Providence), Billy Donlon (Wright State), Tubby Smith (Minnesota), Steve Alford (New Mexico) and Will Brown (Albany) on his way to the finals. He has made all 125 free-throws in his head-to-head competition, plus 102 in a row to defeat Alford in a tiebreaker.
