Cyclones Cruise To 110-51 Win Over UMKC

AMES, Iowa – No. 17 Iowa State (5-0) shot 51.4 percent from the field and won the rebounding battle, 59-31 in a 110-51 win over UMKC (1-4) Wednesday night in Hilton Coliseum.

The 110 points scored by the Cyclones were the most since registering 112 vs. Southern-New Orleans on Dec. 29, 1998 and the 59-point margin of victory was the sixth-largest in school history.

DeAndre Kane paced five Cyclones in double-figure scoring with 20 points, going 6-of-7 from the field and 2-of-2 from beyond the arc. Matt Thomas drilled a trio of 3-pointers en route to a career-high 14 points and Melvin Ejim chipped in with 11 points and nine boards.

Iowa State used a 27-0 run in the first half to break open the game. UMKC scored just four points in the final 11:04 minutes of the opening period, as the Cyclones went into the break with a 52-17 lead.

The Cyclones repeatedly broke UMKC’s press to get easy buckets in the decisive run, connecting on 51.6 percent of its shots in the first half, while the ‘Roos made just 22.2 percent.

DeAndre Kane played just 20 minutes, but he was a stat-stuffer in his limited time. The senior was 6-of-7 from the field, 2-of-2 from downtown and 6-of-8 from the charity stripe en route to his 25th career 20-point performance (20 points). He also had eight boards and four dimes.
