No. 9 ISU Set For Top-10 Showdown With No. 7 Baylor

AMES, Iowa - No. 9 Iowa State (13-0, 1-0) hosts its first top-10 showdown since the 2000-01 season Tuesday when it faces No. 7 Baylor (12-1, 0-0) at Hilton Coliseum. Tipoff is scheduled for 6 p.m.

Cyclone Notebook
- ISU (13-0, 1-0) is one of just six unbeaten teams remaining in the nation. The Cyclones are looking to improve to 2-0 in Big 12 play for the second time under head coach Fred Hoiberg and the sixth time in school history.
- Iowa State’s 13-game winning streak matches the longest in school history (1999-2000).
- ISU became just the seventh school (12 times) in Big 12 history to enter conference play undefeated. It is the first time for the program since 1956-57 that it has went unbeaten in nonconference action.
- The Cyclones are ranked No. 9 in The Associated Press poll and No. 7 in the USA Today Coaches Poll. With Baylor coming into the game at No. 7 in the AP poll, Tuesday’s game will mark the first time ISU has played in a matchup of top-10 teams since Feb. 17, 2001 when the No. 7 Cyclones beat No. 6 Kansas, 79-71, at Hilton Coliseum.
- Iowa State ranks among the NCAA’s top-10 in five statistical categories: First in assist/turnover ratio (1.96), second in assists (18.8), ninth in scoring (87.0), second in defensive rebounding (31.5), ninth in scoring margin (19.8) and 10th in turnovers per game (9.6).
- Iowa State is one of just seven schools nationally with three players averaging at least 15 ppg. The Cyclones have had five different players tally 20+ points in a game this season.
- Melvin Ejim is leading the Cyclones averaging 17.7 points per game to go along with 7.6 boards. Ejim, who is shooting 51.5 percent from the field, has been in double figures in all 11 games since his return, including five games with 20+ points. The senior has posted double-doubles in four games.
Georges Niang has been one of the nation’s hottest players over the last seven games, averaging 19.6 points and shooting the ball at an impressive clip (53.3 FG/44.4 3FG/81.8 FT).
- DeAndre Kane has been a major addition to the Cyclones this season, especially in the last five games where he is averaging 16.4 points, 7.6 rebounds and 6.6 assists, while shooting 56 percent from the field and 46.2 percent from 3-point range. He has earned back-to-back Big 12 Player of the Week awards. Kane is leading the Big 12 averaging 6.1 assists per game.
- Dustin Hogue has been one of the biggest surprises for the Cyclones this year, giving ISU a tenacious rebounder (9.6 rpg, leads Big 12) and efficient offensive player (12.6 ppg, 57 FG%).

Series Notes vs. Baylor
- Iowa State holds a 15-9 edge in the all-time series with Baylor as the teams meet for the 25th time.
- ISU has never lost to Baylor in games played in Ames, owning an 11-0 mark in games played at Hilton Coliseum.
- The Cyclones won both games in last season’s series, beating Baylor 79-71 in Ames and 87-82 in Waco.
- Baylor is one of three Big 12 schools that Iowa State has a series edge with: Texas Tech (13-11) and West Virginia (2-0).
- Melvin Ejim is averaging 12.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in five career meetings with Baylor. He is also shooting 60.5 percent against the Bears.
- Ejim played in the World University Games for Canada with Baylor guard Brady Heslip. The Canadians finished fourth and had a win against the United States.
- Fred Hoiberg is 4-1 against Baylor as a coach.
