AMES, Iowa – Iowa State guard DeAndre Kane has been named the Big 12 Newcomer of the Week after his performance in wins against Texas and TCU. It is his fifth accolade (two player, three newcomer) this season. Baylor’s Cory Jefferson was named the Big 12 Player of the Week.

Kane averaged 21.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 5.0 assists as Iowa State beat the Longhorns and Horned Frogs. The senior opened the week by hitting 7-of-13 shots to finish with 22 points versus the Longhorns. He then added 20 points, six boards and five assists in the Cyclones’ win in Fort Worth. Kane shot 55.6 percent for the week en route to his ninth and 10th 20-point outings of the year. He has dished out at least five assists 17 times and is one of just two players nationally averaging at least 17 points, six rebounds and six assists.

The Cyclones return to action Wednesday against West Virginia. Tipoff from Hilton Coliseum is scheduled for 7 p.m.
