AMES, Iowa – Iowa State tennis coach Armando Espinosa has announced the signing of Canadian prep Samantha Budai. Budai will begin her career at Iowa State in the fall of 2013, along with Belgian Talisa Merchiars, who signed with the Cyclones in May.

“I couldn’t be happier to add a great player like Samantha to our team,” Espinosa said. “She has proven herself in both singles and doubles and is ready to work hard. She has a great passion for the game and will be a valuable member of our team. We are looking forward to helping her improve her game.”

Budai, a London, Ontario native, is ranked No. 17 among 17-18 year olds in Canada. In 2012, Budai won a pair of open doubles tournaments and advanced to the semifinals of the U18 national championships.

As a singles player, Budai has had equal success, posting wins over a number of players ranked among the top 15 in the country.

Budai prepped at Sir Frederick Banting High School.
