Cyclone Notebook
- ISU (18-5, 6-5) welcomes a Texas Tech (13-11, 5-6) squad that has won its last three games. The Cyclones have won four of the last five games in the series.
- Iowa State is one of just nine schools nationally with three players averaging at least 15 ppg (VMI). The Cyclones have had five different players tally 20+ points in a game this season. ISU is the only school in the nation to score 70+ points in every game.
- Melvin Ejim had one of the best performances in ISU and Big 12 history last Saturday against TCU. Ejim scored a Big 12 record 48 points and grabbed a career-high 18 rebounds. He shot 20-of-24 from the field, including 2-of-2 behind the arc, and was 6-of-6 from the charity stripe.
- Ejim is the Big 12’s top scorer at 19.1 points per game, up 7.8 ppg from last season. The last Cyclone to lead the conference in scoring was Marcus Fizer (1999, 2000). The senior has posted eight double-doubles this season and 30 in his career.
- Ejim is the only player in a power conference averaging at least 18 pts, eight rebounds while also shooting at least 50 percent from the field and 35 percent behind the arc. In the last four games, Ejim is averaging 24.5 points and 14.8 rebounds.
- DeAndre Kane, who is on the Wooden Award Midseason Top 25, is 10th in the Big 12 in scoring, tied for first in assists, third in steals and 13th in rebounding. He has scored 20+ points in five of 11 Big 12 games.
- Ejim and Kane were named to the Naismith Award Midseason Top-30 on Thursday.
- Georges Niang has been the Cyclones’ hottest long-range threat since Jan. 18. Since that time, Niang is 18-of-35 from long distance and is averaging 18.9 points per game.
- Iowa State is leading the Big 12 in scoring at 84.7 points per game. The Cyclones share and protect the ball as well as anyone in the country, dishing out 18.5 assists (1st in nation) and posting a 1.72 assist/turnover ratio (1st in Big 12, 2nd in nation).
- Freshman Monté Morris has started the last four games for the Cyclones. Morris leads the Big 12 with a 5.2 assist/turnover ratio. In conference play, he’s been even better with a 7.8 a/to ratio.
