Cyclones Fall To Texas Tech, 6-1
AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State tennis team (8-11, 0-6 Big 12) lost to Texas Tech (13-7, 3-3 Big 12), 6-1, in the last home match of the season at the Forker Tennis Courts.
Texas Tech earned the doubles point early taking down all three Cyclone pairs. Head coach Armando Espinosa thought that playing outdoors for the first time at home had a negative effect on his Cyclone team in doubles play.
“I thought that we were pretty flat during doubles,” Espinosa said. “The wind was more of a factor in doubles play than it was in singles.”
In singles action, freshman Samantha Budai shined at the No. 2 spot, taking down the Red Raiders’ Rashmi Teltumbde, 6-4, 6-3.
“[Budai] beat a very good player,” Espinosa said. “I hope that that’s kind of the step we need to take for her in order for her to understand what the game is and what it takes to win at the Big 12 level.”
The Cyclones will continue Big 12 action next weekend in Oklahoma as they take on No. 23 Oklahoma State and Oklahoma.
