AMES, Iowa – Meghan Cassens won a thrilling three-set match as Iowa State picked up its first Big 12 win this season with a 5-2 win against West Virginia Sunday morning at Ames Racquet and Fitness. The Cyclones improved to 8-12 overall and 1-6 in Big 12 play, while West Virginia falls to 4-14 and 0-7.

Cassens captured the first set, 6-1, against West Virginia’s Ikttesh Chahal at No. 3 singles. Chahal bounced back and took the second set, 6-2, before Cassens out dueled the Mountaineer, 6-4, in the third to give Iowa State the win.

The Cyclones took an early lead as Simona Cacciuttolo breezed to a 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 1 singles against Audrey Wooland. West Virginia went ahead 2-1 after capturing the next two matches. WVU’s Hailey Barrett earned the 6-1, 6-4 straight-set win against Ksenia Pronina at No. 2 singles and Emily Mathis beat Iowa State’s Jenna Langhorst, 6-4, 7-5, at No. 4 singles.
