Johnson Named Big 12 Freshman of the Week
IRVING, Texas - Iowa State women’s basketball freshman Seanna Johnson was named Big 12 Freshman of the Week for the second-consecutive week, the league announced Monday.
Seanna Johnson had a tremendous outing at the South Point Shootout in Las Vegas, Nev. The freshman's performance earned her a spot on the All-Tournament team, after recording 18.5 points and 6.5 rebounds in two Iowa State victories.
Johnson kicked off the tournament with a career-high 20 points while tacking on eight boards against Eastern Washington. She also dished out five assists and went 11-of-12 from the charity stripe. The rookie guard had a 17-point performance against Auburn, including 11 first-half points to help the Cyclones mount a comeback from an 11-point deficit. She also recorded five rebounds.
This is her second career weekly honor and the third for Iowa State this season, as senior Hallie Christofferson was named Player of the Week earlier this season.
Johnson and the No. 20 Iowa State Cyclones return to the court on Wednesday at 7 p.m. to take on Northern Iowa at Hilton Coliseum.
