Cyclones Travel to Oklahoma for Top-25 Showdown
NORMAN, Okla. - The No. 14 Iowa State women's basketball team (12-0, 1-0 Big 12) hits the road for its second Big 12 Conference game of the season taking on the 25th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners (10-4, 1-0 Big 12). Iowa State looks to improve to 13-0 for its best record in school history.
-No. 14 Iowa State looks to make school history once again. With a win over No. 25 Oklahoma, the Cyclones would notch the best start in school history with a 13-0 record. Iowa State has held records of 12-0 (1995-96, 2001-02) twice in program history.
-Under head coach Bill Fennelly the Cyclones hold a 6-5 record against the Sooners in Norman, Okla.
-Iowa State’s 11-0 non-conference record marks just the third time in school history the Cyclones posted a perfect non-conference schedule. Since the 2005-06 season, only nine Big 12 squads have posted undefeated non-conference slates.
-The Cyclones are one of just two teams in the AP Top-25 to have won all their games so far this season by 11 or more points, joining Connecticut.
-The Cyclone starting lineup has taken on the bulk of the scoring, as the five starters are responsible for 79 percent of the Cyclones’ points this season. The starters also account for 62.5 percent of the team’s rebounding.
-The Cyclones held steady No. 14 in the AP Poll after winning the Cyclone Challenge. The ranking of 14th in the nation is a season-high for the Cyclones and the highest ranking since 2010. The Cyclones came in at No.10 again in the USA Today Coaches poll, which is the highest since 2002. This is the 18th-straight time Iowa State has been ranked in the AP or USA Today polls.
-Iowa State is one of just six teams in the country with an undefeated record and one of just two teams in the Big 12 without a loss, joining Oklahoma State. Iowa State is the only Division 1 program with undefeated men’s and women’s basketball teams.
-Iowa State has proven to be one of the more balanced offenses in the country with an unprecedented six student-athletes averaging double-figures. Iowa State is the only team in the nation with six in double-figures. Only four teams in the nation have five averaging double-digits. -All five members of the ISU starting lineup are averaging 10 points or more and Kidd Blaskowsky is now averaging double figures.
-Senior Hallie Christofferson is averaging 20.8 points per game, which ranks second in the Big 12 and in the top-30 nationally. Christofferson is knocking down 50.3 percent from the field and grabbing 8.2 rebounds per game, which both rank in the top-10 in the league.
-Jadda Buckley was named the Big 12 Freshman of the Week after two double-digit scoring games in the Cyclone Challenge. Buckley tied her career-high with 19 points against William & Mary. So far this season, Iowa State has been awarded a Big 12 best four Freshman of the Week honors. Buckley and Seanna Johnson have each garnered two weekly honors.
Last Time Out
- Iowa State continued its undefeated season with a win against the TCU Horned Frogs, 71-49, in the Big 12 Opener.
-The Cyclones knocked down a season-high 15 three-pointers en route to the 22-point victory over TCU. Kidd Blaskowsky led the way for ISU with seven trey’s of her own. Blaskowsky finished the night with a season-high 22 points and a career-high 16 shot attempts.
-Seanna Johnson and Hallie Christofferson paced Iowa State on the boards with 13 and 11 respectively. The Cyclones out-rebounded TCU 56-25. The Horned Frogs won the turnover battle, committing just five for the game, while Iowa State had 19.
Scouting The Sooners
- The No. 25 Sooners enter Sunday’s game with a 10-4 overall record and an 8-2 record at home. Oklahoma won its conference opener at Texas Tech by a score of 63-38.
-Oklahoma has four players averaging double-digit scoring with Aaryn Ellenberg, Sharane Campbell, Nicole Griffin and Morgan Hook all in double figures.
-Ellenberg, who averages 18.2 points for Oklahoma, needs just 16 points to reach 2,000 in her career.
Series vs. The Sooners
-This is the 10th meeting between the Sooners and Cyclones in which both programs are ranked. The Cyclones hold a 7-2 record when both programs are ranked.
-In the overall series, the Sooners hold the edge leading the Cyclones 22-32. Iowa State has won four out of the last five meetings
-Last season, the Cyclones went 3-0 against the Sooners, winning at home 82-61, on the road 72-68 and in the semis of the Big 12 Tournament 79-60. Iowa State’s last road win over a ranked opponent was the win in Norman, Okla. last season when OU was ranked No. 22.

-The Cyclones knocked down 125 three-pointers so far this season for a league-leading average of 10.4 trey’s per game, which ranks fourth nationally. Iowa State is second in the Big 12 in three-point field goal percentage shooting 38.6 from long.
-Iowa State has knocked down 29 three-pointers over the last two games, including a season-high 15 in the Big 12 opener at TCU.
-Nikki Moody, Brynn Williamson and Kidd Blaskowsky lead Iowa State with 77 three-pointers between the them.
