Iowa State Hits the Road to Face Texas Tech
LUBBOCK, Texas - The No. 13 Iowa State women's basketball team (14-4, 3-4 Big 12) hits the road to take on Texas Tech (6-12, 0-7 Big 12). The Cyclones are looking to return to their winning ways with a sweep of the Lady Raiders. ISU toppled Texas Tech in Hilton Coliseum, 74-48, earlier this season.
-This is the 24th meeting between Iowa State and Texas Tech, with ISU grabbing control of the all-time series, 13-10, early last season. This is also the second meeting of the season between Iowa State and Texas Tech, as the Cyclones dropped the Lady Raiders in a 74-48 rout in Hilton Coliseum.
-Iowa State sits at 28th in the latest RPI rankings after a 14-4 start to the season. Iowa State is currently the fourth among all Big 12 schools.
-The Cyclones’ NCAA record streak of consecutive games with a three-pointer is about to hit 600, pending a three-point make at Texas Tech. Over the span of the last 15 years, Iowa State has netted 4,650 three’s. The last time the Cyclones failed to knock down a three-point shot was on Feb. 15, 1995 at Missouri.
-The Cyclones dropped seven spots to No. 20 in the AP Poll after falling to West Virginia and Kansas State this past week. The Cyclones also sit at No. 17 in the USA Today Coaches poll. This is the 21st-straight time Iowa State has been ranked in the AP or USA Today polls.
-Over the last six Big 12 contests, Hallie Christofferson is averaging 17.5 points, the senior is also a combined 38-of-75, shooting 50.6 percent from the field. She has also netted 29 of her 32 free throws in Big 12 play.
-Christofferson currently ranks ninth in the Iowa State record books with 1,493 career points. The senior could move into eighth on Saturday’s game at Texas Tech as she needs just two points to pass Cyclone great Stacy Frese, who sits at 8th all-time with 1,494 points.
-So far this season, Iowa State has been awarded a Big 12 best six Newcomer of the Week honors. Seanna Johnson and Jadda Buckley have each garnered three weekly honors for a total of six, tying the school record set in 1998 by Stacy Frese and Megan Taylor.
-Iowa State’s 11-0 non-conference record marks just the third time in school history the Cyclones posted a perfect non-conference schedule. Since the 2005-06 season, only nine Big 12 squads have posted undefeated non-conference slates.
-The Cyclones’ 14-game winning streak to kick off the season is the longest in school history and also sets the school record for a program-best start (14-0).
Last Time Out
-Iowa State dropped its fourth-consecutive game against the Sooners on Tuesday by a score of 75-54. The Cyclones committed 16 turnovers and shot just 31.5 percent from the field in the loss.
-Junior Nikki Moody led Iowa State with 18 points and four rebounds. The junior also tallied five assists for the 12th time this season.
