AMES, Iowa – I guess you can chalk it up to Hilton Magic once again. Against the ropes numerous times, No. 16 Iowa State (23-7, 11-7 Big 12) came away with a miraculous 85-81 overtime win over Oklahoma State (21-10, 8-10 Big 12) Saturday afternoon in Hilton Coliseum.

Finding one hero in this one is virtually impossible. However, it was Naz Long who gave the Cyclones a chance by draining a desperation 3-pointer at the end of regulation to tie the score at 71-71 and force overtime.

With Melvin Ejim and Georges Niang fouled out in the overtime period, DeAndre Kane and Long stepped up by carrying the Cyclone load. The Cyclones made six of their final seven free-throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Kane was brilliant, leading the way with 27 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the field on senior night. Niang added 22 points and Long had 14 points, all after intermission. Marcus Smart led OSU with 27 points.

The Cyclone victory was achieved after falling behind by as many as 16 points in the second half. ISU actually took a six-point lead (63-57) with 4:26 remaining in regulation, but  failed to score a field goal until Long’s prayer at the horn.

Melvin Ejim, playing in  his final home game, tallied 12 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with under four minutes left in regulation. He became just the fourth player in Big 12 history to record 1,500 points and 1,000 rebounds in a career.

Keys to the Game
Second Half Shooting. Iowa State was bogged down by poor shooting in the first half while falling behind, 32-25. ISU made just 36.7 percent of its shots in the first half. The second half, however, was a different story, as the Cyclones shot 18-of-33 from the field (54.5 percent) after intermission.

ISU was 3-of-5 from the floor and 8-of-12 from the free-throw line in the overtime period.

Cyclone Game Ball Goes to…
Naz Long. He didn’t score as many points as his teammates, but for the second time this season Naz Long hit a 3-pointer at the buzzer to force overtime vs. the Oklahoma State Cowboys. He did it in Stillwater over a month ago, and he did it again Saturday afternoon.

Long’s trey at the horn was close to 30-feet, and for the second time this season vs. OSU, eventually led to a Cyclone victory. Long scored all of his 14 points after intermission.
