AMES, Iowa – Iowa State junior Maggie Gannon put on a career performance in the 1,500-meter run, while Crystal Nelson made a stellar 2013-14 debut in the 5,000m on Friday’s afternoon session at the Mt. SAC Relays. The Cyclones competed at both Mt. SAC and at the Kansas Relays today.

Mt. SAC Relays
Two weeks ago, Gannon came within six tenths of a second of cracking Iowa State’s top-10 list in the 1,500-meter run in what was then a personal-best performance. Gannon knocked over 2.5 seconds off of that time this afternoon for a sixth-place, 4:22.16 personal record in the event. The time is good for the sixth-fastest run in program history, tying Jessica Huff, who posted the mark in 2004.

In the women’s 5,000-meter run, Nelson made her season debut in impressive fashion. The Winchester, Va., native posted a mark of 15:49.90 in the event. The time is good for the third fastest in program history, only behind Cyclone greats Betsy Saina and Lisa Uhl. Nelson finished 12th overall.
