AMES, Iowa – Senior Erica Miller led a trio of Cyclones named to the All-Big 12 teams on Tuesday, earning her second consecutive first team honor. Freshman Brittany Gomez was named to the All-Big 12 second team while Lexi Slater was named the league’s top defensive shortstop. This season is the first since 2003 that Iowa State has had more than two postseason selections.

In her final season with the Cyclones, Miller hit .349 against Big 12 pitching while slugging .512 with an on-base percentage of .481. Both her 13 RBI and nine walks in league play led the Iowa State squad. Not only did Miller break school records for RBI (52) and walks (29) in a season, but she leaves Iowa State as the career record-holder with 149 RBI and 333 total bases. Miller ranks in the top-three all-time at Iowa State in average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, hits, doubles, home runs and walks.

Gomez hit the ground running in her freshman season, stealing a record 31 bases on the year, the sixth-most all-time at Iowa State and was a perfect 7-for-7 in steal attempts against conference opponents. In the process of setting Cyclone freshman records for average (.361) and hits (66), the New Braunfels, Texas native also scored a school-record 50 runs. In league play, Gomez led the Cyclones with .350 hitting, collecting a team-high 21 hits.

Defensively, the Cyclones turned 29 double plays in 2013, the fourth-most in the nation. Of Iowa State’s 12 double plays against league foes, Slater had a hand in six of them. Whether fielding a struck ball and tossing to second base to start a two-for-one play or catching a toss and firing to Miller at first base for the second out, Slater quick reflexes and lightning-fast arm speed made her one of the Big 12’s most dangerous defenders. No slouch at the plate, Slater hit .311 in conference play, counting four home runs and 11 RBI.

Top-ranked Oklahoma led all teams with 11 team honors and individual nods for the conference’s top coach (Patty Gasso), pitcher (Keilani Ricketts) and player (Shelby Pendley).
