DES MOINES, Iowa - The Iowa State distance events highlighted a day of impressive performances at the U.S.A. Track and Field Championships. The Cyclones recorded three top-10 finishes in seven events, Thursday.

The senior women's10,000-meter run, Iowa State's main event of the evening session, featured Cyclones Lisa Uhl, Meaghan Nelson and Dani Stack. Uhl was the first finisher out of the group, but Nelson was the one who impressed, as the Cedar Rapids, Iowa, native placed 11th in the field of 21 runners with a time of 33:39.62. Iowa State assistant track coach Sara Vergote and former head coach Corey Ihmels were very pleased with Nelson and Stack's performances.

"[Meaghan] raced very well today," Vergote said. "She ran with her nose down, and put together a very smart, strong race."

"Meaghan and Dani had a very good day," Ihmels said. "They didn't race as well as they wanted to at the NCAA's, but they worked hard to be ready for today's race, ran strong and proved themselves today."

Uhl placed ninth overall and battled early to keep pace with the leaders, but the former Cyclone fell back to finish with an overall time of 33:35.80. Stack finished 13th in a strong race.

“Lisa didn’t run as well as she’s capable of, but track is a constant battle,” Ihmels said. “ I have no doubt that she will get to where she needs to be.”

Freshman Kevin Poster competed in the junior men's triple jump, finishing seventh with a best jump of 47-9.25.

Incoming freshmen Anna Holdiman and Courtney Hutchinson were impressive in their respective events. Holdiman, a product of Waverly-Shellrock, placed second in the junior 3,000-meter run with a time of 9:48.23, while Hutchinson finished 13th in the junior shot put with a throw of 44-10.25.
