WATERLOO, Iowa- At the end of day two at the UNI Invitational, four Iowa State tennis players remain unbeaten and will compete for the title in their brackets on Sunday.

Freshman Lydia Green continues to move up in the bracket, along with her teammate junior Meghan Cassens. Seniors Caroline Andersen and Emma Waites will also play in the finals of their bracket.

Green is proving to be a valuable asset to the team after last weekend’s third-place finish at Minnesota’s Gopher Invitational. She heads to the finals of the UNI Singles bracket after an impressive win over Milwaukee’s Alysa Straub, 6-2, 6-1. She is set to play Illinois State’s Maddie Ballion in the final round.

Cassens also remains unbeaten this weekend following Saturday’s singles match against St. Louis’ Madie Cook. The Iowa State junior defeated Cook, 6-0, 6-4, and will take on Kadi Ilves of Illinois State on Sunday in the finals of the Panthers singles bracket.

The T.C. Singles bracket will guarantee a Cyclone champ as Waites will take on Andersen in the final round. Andersen improves to 2-0 for the weekend after defeating Upper Iowa’s Alexa Harrington with a skillful win of 6-0, 6-1. Waites took down Milwaukee’s Aerielle Pendleton, 6-2, 2-6, 1-0 (5).

In the consolation rounds, Ana Gasparovic defeated St. Louis’ Brooke Urzendowski, 6-1, 6-1, while Talisa Merchiers took down Chelsea Bailey of Milwaukee, 6-2, 6-4.

The Cyclones got two doubles wins on Saturday with Green and Waites taking a victory over a mixed pair of South Dakota’s Ana Vujosevic and UNI’s Astrid Santos, 8-5, and Freshman Samantha Budai teaming up with Cassens to take down Maria Toro and Natalia Yacaman of St. Louis, 8-6.

Final rounds of the tournament will begin Sunday morning at 9:30 a.m.
