Hahn Earns 14th Big 12 Defensive POW Award
In No. 25 Iowa State’s win over Baylor Saturday at Hilton Coliseum, Hahn was at her very best to help the Cyclones earn the sweep. Sweeps can be detrimental to libero’s with big numbers, but that was not the case Saturday as Hahn led the Cyclones with 21 digs, an astonishing 7.00 digs per set.
However, it was not just the digs that made Hahn’s performance stand out. The two-time All-American was everywhere on the court helping get the Cyclones out of tough situations. If another ISU passer had to make a challenging dig, Hahn was on the scene to help clean up for an over ball, or even a potential attack.
This was the 14th Big 12 Defensive Player of the Week award for Hahn. The two-time defending Big 12 Libero of the Year, Hahn is now alone in second place in Big 12 volleyball history for career weekly awards, passing former Texas star and U.S. Olympian Destinee Hooker’s 13 awards. The only student-athlete ahead of her is Iowa State legend Ashley Mass (2007-10), who won 15 Big 12 weekly awards during her distinguished career.
Hahn is the Big 12’s leader in digs at 5.56 per set, which ranks her ninth in the country. Hahn contributes to the Iowa State cause in a variety of ways, averaging 0.79 assists per set and 0.18 service aces per set to go with her excellent defense.
Tiana Dockery of Kansas was named the Offensive Player of the Week, and Chiaka Ogbogu of Texas was named Rookie of the Week.
Iowa State will resume Big 12 play Wednesday with a trip to Texas Tech for a 6 p.m. match in United Spirit Arena. Fox Sports Southwest will be televising the match.
