Cyclones Eighth, Chayanun 12th After Round One
AUSTIN, Texas- The No. 24 Iowa State women’s golf team kicked off postseason play today with the first round of the 2014 Big 12 Championships held at UT Golf Club. The Cyclones fired a 302-team score Friday and are in eighth place with two rounds remaining.
The Oklahoma Sooners currently lead the field of nine teams with a first-round total of 291. The Sooners’ Chirapat Jao-Javanil also holds a share of the individual lead with Kansas’ Yupaporn Kawinpakom at 3-under 69.
Pacing the Cyclones in the opening round was junior Chonlada Chayanun. Chayanun fired a 1-over 73 in round one and is currently tied for 12th individually. She is making her first appearance at the conference championship since she finished 38th at this event her freshman season.
Senior Sasikarn On-iam also aided ISU’s effort by firing a 75 to start things off in her final Big 12 Championship. On-iam is currently tied for 16th in the medalist race. In her outstanding career as a Cyclone, On-iam has never finished outside the top-25 at the Big 12 Championships.
