Cyclones Announce 2012 Soccer Schedule
PRINTABLE SCHEDULE
AMES, Iowa - Preparation has already begun for the 2012 Iowa State soccer
season, but today the team announced its official schedule for the upcoming
campaign. The Cyclones will start their
season Aug. 17 against Nebraska-Omaha in Omaha.
Fans will get to see the debut of the new home of the Iowa State soccer
team on Aug. 31 when Iowa travels to Ames for an Iowa Corn Cy-Hawk Series match
that starts at 8 p.m. CST.
Fifth-year head coach Wendy Dillinger is excited to embark on the challenge the 2012 schedule presents.
"The schedule is intense, we added some more home games to get up to nine," Dillinger said. "It will be good, our non-conference will prepare us well. If things go well, hopefully we will have a shot of making the NCAA Tournament which is a goal of ours."
Iowa State will play host to the two newest members of the Big 12 Conference as a part of a four-game league home slate. Texas (Sept. 21) and Oklahoma (Oct. 26) will bookend the visits from the Horned Frogs (Oct. 5) and the Mountaineers (Oct. 7). The match against Oklahoma is the regular-season finale and will serve as senior night.
Dillinger is looking forward to competing against new teams and coaches this fall.
"I think adding West Virginia is good because they have been a powerhouse in the Big East," she said. "There is a lot of parity in our conference, but it is competitive across the board. TCU and their coaches are really good at what they do, and I expect them to make a statement. It is exciting to welcome them to the conference. With a new coach at Oklahoma and a new coach at Texas, there is some new blood in the conference."
In addition to Iowa, the Cyclones will play host to Northern Iowa (Sept. 4), Milwaukee (Sept. 16), South Dakota (Sept. 23) and Drake (Oct. 14) in non-conference action.
