Iowa State To Host Kansas
AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team returns to home action Friday at 7 p.m. against the Kansas Jayhawks at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
The Cyclones will be looking for another strong home crowd after breaking the school attendance record with 1,574 fans cheering on the team last Friday. Iowa State leads the conference in home attendance with an average of 1,046 fans per game.
Friday’s game will be “Student night”. The first 50 students to enter the gates will receive free Jeff’s Pizza. There will be a pre-game student bags tournament. Students can sign up for the tournament by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org. The game will also be Frequent Fan Card double punch day. Fans that come to at least four home games will get their name entered into a drawing to win a TV. The drawing will take place on Fan Appreciation Night, which will be on Oct 18 vs. Baylor.
Last time out
The Cyclones fell to Texas 3-1 in Austin, Texas during their second conference game of the season. Senior Jessica Reyes scored a goal in the 83rd minute to put the Cyclones within one. Iowa State was unable to complete the comeback.
Scouting the Jayhawks
Kansas (5-5-1) opens up their conference schedule Friday night in Ames. The Jayhawks are led by senior forward Caroline Kastor. The senior leads the Jayhawks with four goals this season. The Jayhawks and Cyclones shared a similar nonconference schedule this season, as both teams faced South Dakota State and Santa Clara this season. Both teams defeated the Jackrabbits and lost to Santa Clara.
What to watch for
The key matchup in this game will be the Iowa State offensive attack against the Kansas defense. 11 different Cyclones have scored this season, making the Cyclone offense well-rounded. Iowa State will look towards Jennifer Dominguez, who has five goals this season, to lead its offensive unit. The Cyclones have not lost a game this year when scoring at least two goals.
