Huskers Defeat Cyclones In Lincoln

LINCOLN, Neb. – Iowa State lost its first match of the spring season on Saturday, falling in three sets at Nebraska, 25-20, 26-24, 27-25, moving to 1-1 on the season.

Cyclones right side Mackenzie Bigbee and outside hitter Andie Malloy led all scorers with 13 kills each and Bigbee picked up 13 digs for the match’s only double-double. Kelsey Robinson, a transfer for the Huskers, led Nebraska with 10 kills.

The Huskers earned the win, despite fewer kills, digs and assists than the Cyclones. Nebraska had nine blocks to Iowa State’s seven and served seven aces, two from Morgan Broekhuis, to Iowa State’s one.

Iowa State setter Jenelle Hudson had 37 assists in the match and libero Kristen Hahn had a match-high 17 digs. No Husker defender had more than Robinson’s seven digs on the night. At the net for Iowa State, Victoria Hurtt led the club with four blocks, including a solo block and redshirt freshman Morgan Kuhrt had Iowa State’s second solo block.

Iowa State is at home next weekend, hosting Minnesota, UNI and Nebraska-Omaha on April 13. Each team will play three matches, beginning at 10 a.m. CDT, and two matches will be played simultaneously. In the first matches of the day, Iowa State will face Nebraska-Omaha while Minnesota takes on UNI at Hilton Coliseum. Admission is free.
