Cyclones Set to Face Baylor Bears
AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team returns to home action to take on the Baylor Bears Friday at 7p.m. at the Cyclone Sports Complex.
Friday’s game will be “Fan Appreciation Night”, where there will be a drawing for the frequent fan prize. Fans who have attended at least four home games and have entered into a drawing have a chance to win a TV. There will also be raffles for Cyclone prizes.
Last time out
The Cyclones last game was one to remember. Senior midfielder Emily Goldstein recorded one of the finest games in Iowa State history to lead the Cyclones to a 4-1 win over Oklahoma. Goldstein scored three goals and became the first Cyclone to record a hat trick since Kaeli Flaska accomplished the feat on Sept. 11, 2011. The win marked the first of the Big 12 season for the Cyclones.
Scouting the Bears
The Baylor Bears (8-3-3, 1-2-1) are a young team led by sophomore Bri Campos and freshman Ashley York. The two have combined to score nine of the teams 27 goals this season. The Bears rank in the top-four in shots, points, goals and goals per game in the Big 12. Baylor’s lone Big 12 win came in a 1-0 defeat over the Oklahoma Sooners.
What to watch for
The key matchup in this game will be the Cyclone offensive attack against the Baylor defense. In conference games alone Iowa State is third in the Big 12 for goals scored with six. Baylor is fifth in goals allowed in Big 12 games this season. Also watch to see how Iowa State senior goalkeeper Maddie Jobe looks to slow down a young Baylor offense.
