AMES, Iowa- The Iowa State soccer team’s 2013 season proved to be one of the finest in school history as the Cyclones returned to the Big 12 tournament for the first time since 2007.

Iowa State had several athletes earn honors over the course of the season. Senior midfielder Emily Goldstein led the Cyclones in accolades, earning First-Team All-Big 12 honors, and Big 12 Player of the Week from College Sports Madness and Second-Team All-Big 12 honors from the Big 12 conference. Goldstein’s honors came after she became just the eighth Cyclone in school history to record a hat trick in a 4-1 victory over Oklahoma and after the senior scored a golden goal to secure a 1-0 overtime win against the Baylor Bears and a spot in the Big 12 tournament.

Iowa State’s senior goalkeeper Maddie Jobe ended her career as ISU’s all-time leader in goalkeeper victories (29) and career shutouts (21). This season Jobe recorded seven shutouts and finished second in the Big 12 with 91 saves. For her efforts, Jobe earned Defensive Player of the Week twice this season (Oct. 8, Oct. 22). Jobe also nabbed honors from when she was named as a week nine Primetime Performer by the magazine.

Iowa State’s freshman class provided many key components of the 2013 season scoring six goals and contributing nine assists this season.  The class was led by forward Koree Willer, who finished third on the team with four goals.  Willer was named Big 12 Newcomer of the Week on Oct. 15 for her performance. As a group the freshmen finished with 21 of the teams 77 total points.

The Cyclones were also impressive in the classroom with the 14 different players earning academic All-Conference honors. Iowa State finished with the second most players who earned academic All-Conference honors. The Cyclones were led by senior Jessica Reyes who posted a perfect 4.0 GPA.

Iowa State fans were also a part of a successful 2013 season supporting the Cyclones throughout the season helping to set some of the highest attendance marks in school history. Iowa State set a new single-game record with 1,574 fans on hand during ISU’s game against Texas Tech. Iowa State finished fifth overall in the Big 12 averaging 910 fans per game and 47 more than the Big 12 average.
