BATON ROUGE, La. – Iowa State’s game against Lamar Sunday to close the Purple and Gold Challenge will go down in the history books as a “no game” due to both teams not completing five full innings. Iowa State remains 14-4 on the season.

Due to the game before the Cyclones and Cardinals, Jackson State vs. Harvard, going 10 innings the LU-ISU game start time was pushed back an hour. Before the game, both teams' head coaches and the umpire crew agreed upon a drop dead time to ensure that Iowa State had enough time to make its flight.

Here is the official statement from the Purple and Gold Challenge tournament administration:

Due to the mutual agreement by the head coaches and lead umpire Brad Newton on a drop dead time of 3 p.m. due to travel arrangements for Iowa State prior to the start of the game, Game 12 of the Purple and Gold Challenge between Lamar and Iowa State is a No Contest since the game was called in the bottom of the fifth and five innings were not completed, which must be needed in order to be considered a regulation game per rule 6.18 of the NCAA Softball Rule Book. It states: “’No game’ shall be declared by the umpire if he/she terminates play before five innings have been completed by each team.”

Iowa State finished the tournament with a 2-2 record, picking up wins over Harvard and Jackson State. The ISU infield duo of Sara Davison and Lexi Slater were named to the Purple and Gold Challenge All-Tournament Team. Davison hit .429 on the weekend while recording two stolen bases. Slater led ISU with a .462 batting average and a team-high six RBIs, five coming in ISU's 16-0 win over Jackson State.
